Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Jamie Overton believes that understanding the nature of the pitches and bowling accordingly is important in order to achieve results in a volatile format like T20.
Overton was the standout performer for CSK with the ball in the last game against the Delhi Capitals. The tall right-arm pacer changed the complexion of the game with his match-winning four-wicket spell.
He used his height well and hit a hard length to take his wickets. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he tried to bowl yorkers and ended up conceding runs. However, he improved and adjusted his plans according to the pitch against DC, which gave him the desired results.
Ahead of CSK’s next home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Overton underlined the importance of adaptability.
“Hitting hard lengths is sort of my natural game,” said Overton in Chennai while speaking to the media. “Last game, that’s what worked, but sometimes we’ve got to adapt to the wickets and analyse what suits a particular surface. In the past, I’ve bowled a bit short, but I’ve realised what works and what doesn’t. I’m also trying to bowl a bit fuller to bring the batsman forward, as the wickets are so good nowadays. So, I’m trying to stick with that process.”
CSK will be eyeing their second win when they take on KKR at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
