Former Spurs chairman Daniel Levy speaks out on Tottenham’s relegation battle following his exit earlier this season.
While being awarded a CBE at Windsor Castle on Wednesday afternoon, Levy gave his thoughts on his old side fighting for Premier League survival.

🗣️ “I could never have envisaged this at the beginning of the season.”

Interviewer: “Daniel, many congratulations. What does this mean to you?”
Daniel: “It’s a great achievement. It’s a great honour, but in particular I’m really thankful for Tottenham Hotspur, all the wonderful staff and that we were able to make such a great contribution to the community.”
Interviewer: “What were your highlights then?”
Daniel: “You know, over that period of time so many things happened. Getting to the Champions League final, opening the stadium, achieving Europe a number of times, having some great players, making a contribution to the local community, impacting people’s lives. There isn’t one item, lots of things.”
Interviewer: “The stadium and the training ground are excellent though, you must be so proud.”
Daniel: “Yeah absolutely but you know it’s about winning on the pitch.”
Interviewer: “And the managers you’ve worked with who are some of the outstanding managers you’ve worked with?”
Daniel: “I’ve been honoured that I’ve worked with lots of fantastic managers, would be unfair of me to name one individual manager I just work with lots of great people.”
Interviewer: “Obviously the Europa League win a year ago was a fantastic moment the League Cup win as well?”
Daniel: “Yeah I mean you know and forever grateful being the history of Tottenham for allowing us to win a European trophy and it was an amazing night.”
Interviewer: “How did you hear about the news of your CBE?”
Daniel: “I got a letter in the post and rather excited when I got it, felt like I got the letter when I got into university.”
Interviewer: “How are you planning to celebrate today?”
Daniel: “Tonight we have family dinner in London.”
Interviewer: “And just on Spurs’ season, you watching every game?”
Daniel: “Every single game. I’m feeling the pain, but I’m optimistic that we will get through it.
Interviewer: “It must have been a tough watch at some stages.”
Daniel: “It’s been very, very difficult but Spurs is in my blood and as I said, I’m hopeful that we will be OK in the end.”
Interviewer: “And that game at Chelsea next week is going to be huge, isn’t it?”
Daniel: “Always tough, never a good place for us but hopefully this year is going to be different.”

He said in another clip…
Daniel: “I’m optimistic and I pray every day we will.”
Interviewer: “What did you make of the results at West Ham at the weekend?”
Daniel: “Look, not, interesting getting into individual games but all I’m focused on is making sure Tottenham stays in the Premier League.”
Interviewer: “And just briefly on their season overall, what have you made of it? It’s been a tough season, multiple managers.”
Daniel: “Look, I could never have envisaged this at the beginning of the season. Obviously incredibly disappointed but let’s hope that, let’s look forward and very much hope that next season we’re still in the Premier League.”

Here’s the social media reaction as Daniel Levy speaks out on Tottenham’s relegation battle following his exit earlier this season…
@THFCanna: couldn’t see the problems in how he was running things, which is why nothing was done to prevent what has been coming for years 🤷♀️ yet he is somehow surprised
@kasalioluw82460: I saw it coming from last season when they ended 17 on the EPL table, Tottenham narrowly escaped relegation this season
@NickKallipolits: Sacked the serial winner and created the mess. Where is his accountability??!
@jonrommen: We’d never have ended up in this mess if Daniel Levy were still around. He would’ve sacked Frank two months earlier — and there’s no chance he’d ever have hired Tudor.
@Thfc20031: As bad as it sounds, if he was still here we would have been safe by now. Not a chance he would’ve kept frank for an extra few months and appointed Tudor
@thfc__j: Yeah it’s totally unrealistic for the team who finished 17th last season to be struggling after losing their key player to an acl injury a month before the season started
@andyhotspur14: The club is in this mess because of levy & Enic. For 25 years he’s held the club back by constantly cutting corners and cheaping out on players, never bought anyone that any manager wanted, always the 5th choice option & now we have the worst squad I’ve seen in 45 years #ENICOUT
@NathanAClark: He can not hide his joy. This man is glowing.
@AnasFTL: That smug smile on his face… you can just tell he doesn’t blame himself for the situation we’re in. He hired Johan Lange. Hired Vinai Venkatesham. Hired Thomas Frank. Even though he’s no longer here, his fingerprints are all over the crime scene — he’s as culpable as anyone else at the club.
@Trevorlloyd92: Twat. He is the reason this mess started. In the same interview btw, he left winning the Europa League out of his greatest achievements (until the interviewer mentioned it), but mentioned getting to the CL Final 🤣🤣 he really had no ambition to win anything
@TheBoyHotspur: Smirking, as if it were none of his doing!!!!!!!!
