The second car confirmed for Assetto Corsa EVO’s V0.7 build has been revealed: the Datsun 240Z.

Upon release in 1969, the Datsun, badged as a Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan, helped Japan shed its global reputation for creating bland, utilitarian vehicles thanks to its bold, long-bonneted profile and sweet-sounding inline-six engine.

The 240Z also became the cornerstone of Nissan sports cars right up until the present day, with various models, including the 350Z, 370Z and the modern-day Z, following the same two-seater coupe template.

Its low weight and rear-wheel-drive layout made it nimble, with success following in motorsport, most notably in the North America-based SCCA series. A rally version even claimed the East African Safari Rally in 1973.

Its success helped push Nissan into the public consciousness in America and Europe, and it’s become something of a motoring icon as a result, as well as a tuner’s favourite. Tantalisingly, Kunos revealed that a tuned version of the 240Z would be available alongside a standard road-car variant at launch.

The Datsun joins the already-announced Porsche 935 (2018) in AC EVO’s V0.7 lineup, with further cars and a release date expected to be announced in due course.
