Starting Lineups
Starting Pitchers
Rhett Lowder
The Reds have won four of Lowder’s five starts this season. On April 9th he had the worst start of his career against Miami, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in 5.1 innings. He’s rebounded well since, pitching into the 7th inning against San Francisco and then allowing one run over six innings last time out against the Rays.
The splits for Lowder in his career are still in the small sample size range and they’ve come in small parts over two seasons that are two years apart. Still, he’s been very good at limiting hits and power against both lefties and righties. The big difference is that left-handed hitters are walking a ton against him while right-handed hitters almost never walk against him. Both groups make plenty of contact against him.

Keider Montero
The first two outings this season for Montero were good as he allowed just two earned runs in 10.1 innings pitched. The last two have been so-so as he gave up four runs in six innings to the Royals and three runs in 5.2 innings to Milwaukee in his last start.
Last season his splits were quite big. He was much better against right-handed hitters. They hit for a solid average, but they rarely walked and they didn’t hit for much power at all. Lefties hit for a high average, walked at a solid rate, made tons of contact, and hit for a good amount of power against him.

The best start since 2006
After last night’s win the Reds are 18-9. That’s their best record through 27 games since 2006 when they began 19-8.
Sal Stewart’s incredible start
With with 29 RBI this season, Stewart leads all of baseball. It’s the most RBI any Red has ever had before May began (the season starts much earlier now than it has in the distant past). It’s the second most RBI by a rookie before May ever – trailing just Jose Abreu’s 32 in 2014.
