It has become fashionable for every cricketer to get a stylish haircut or reinvent their look in celebration of the IPL—something that usually happens in the days leading up to the tournament. They don’t hesitate to bring in the best hairstylists in town, often hiring them even for commercial shoots. But when it comes to hair styling, MS Dhoni remains the undisputed king—there’s simply no one close to the former India captain, renowned hairstylist Jawed Habib told CricBlogger during a candid chat on Sunday.
Right from the mohawk to highlights to spiky styles, MS Dhoni has done it all. “He loves experimenting, and his long hair and the styles that followed have made him an icon when it comes to hair styling,” Jawed Habib said, adding that the rest of the cricketing world has followed Dhoni over the years because he remains the undisputed king of hair styling.
This perhaps explains why Dhoni continues to be in high demand for commercial endorsements, even years after retiring from international cricket—more than most of his contemporaries. Dhoni himself is quite particular about his look before the IPL, and it is often seen that he shies away from clicking selfies with fans to keep it under wraps.
“Dhoni has a mass appeal and continues to charm the cricketing world with his charisma,” Jawed Habib said, adding that he himself played club cricket for Madras Club in Delhi.
Now, with his business spread across 27 states and over 1,000 outlets, Jawed Habib hardly finds the time to follow cricket religiously. But his heart still belongs to the game, and he makes sure to stay updated with the latest developments. “I know kaun jeeta aur kaun haara. Otherwise, I don’t get the time to follow the sport that closely,” Habib said.
Having played alongside Jawed Habib in a friendly match at the Siri Fort cricket ground more than 20 years ago, this writer can vouch for his cricketing skills. Habib not only dismissed batsmen at will with his slow, low off-spin but also celebrated each wicket in grand style—leaving the batters in tatters.
“Those were the good old days. But given a choice, I am always ready to go out and play a game of cricket whenever I get a chance. Like all Indians, we love this sport,” Habib said before signing off in his inimitable style.
