D’Lo Brown believes The Rock should be doing more for WWE, especially after landing a major role with TKO.
During the Coach and Bro Show, Coach brought up The Rock’s connection to TKO and questioned why one of the biggest stars in the world has not been more vocal about WWE’s current product. Coach pointed out that Rock made massive money through his TKO deal and said someone in that position should at least be promoting the company. D’Lo agreed and said The Rock is not just another celebrity name attached to the brand. In his eyes, Rock is a brand ambassador.
“Yeah. And when you’re making that kind of money, you’re a brand ambassador and you represent the brand that’s out there. And no one is too busy where they can’t pick up the phone and for 30 seconds write a tweet.”
D’Lo said WWE needs someone with Rock’s mainstream reach talking about wrestling because it brings attention from people who may not normally watch.
“No one is that busy. No one is that busy they can’t put over the product that’s paying them. No one. Um, and so I think the industry needs someone who is as high-profile as Rocky, as famous as Rocky, because we need that brand ambassador out there spreading that goodwill of what wrestling is to the mainstream media and to the world. And that’s right now is lacking.”
D’Lo continued by saying whenever Rock talks about wrestling, new eyes follow. That is why he wants to see Rock use that platform for WWE.
“And then every time he speaks on wrestling, you know, eyeballs go on wrestling. Eyeballs that normally would not be watching it. So, you need those crossover eyeballs. I don’t care who it is, you need those crossover eyeballs. So, I would hope that when the time is right, Rocky will come out there and, you know, I don’t know, do his job.”
Vince Russo then suggested Rock may have a hard time promoting WWE if he does not truly believe in the product. D’Lo understood that point, but said the money changes the conversation.
“Yes. And that is true and I will give you that. But there’s 80 million reasons why he needs to go out there and talk about it.”
That is a strong statement from D’Lo, but it is not hard to see where he is coming from. If The Rock is tied to WWE at the corporate level, fans and veterans are going to expect him to act like it.
