Dolphins RB De’Von Achane ‘not available for trade’ as contract talks continue

The Miami Dolphins are less than a month removed from trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to Denver in exchange for a first-round pick. Don’t expect star running back De’Von Achane to follow in those footsteps out of Miami.

“He’s not available for trade,” Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan said Wednesday. “Things are going good. We’ve had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, trending in the right direction.”

Those conversations are in regards to a contract extension for Achane, who was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Achane is entering the final year of his rookie deal and coming off a breakout season in which he was one of the few bright spots for the Miami offense.

In 16 games in 2025, Achane set career highs in carries (238) and rushing yards (1,350). In the passing game, Achane ranked second on the team in targets with 85, only trailing Waddle’s 100. He led the team with 67 catches and was second on the team with 488 receiving yards. Achane tied a career high with 12 touchdowns — eight rushing and four receiving.

“He’s obviously very important to what we’re doing,” Sullivan said. “It’s all part of it. It’s part of professional sports. We’ll get where we need to be, one way or the other but yeah, things are trending in the right direction.”

Earlier this month, Achane was absent from the team’s voluntary OTA practices, with coach Jeff Hafley saying the absence was “part of the business.” In the aftermath of releasing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and absorbing the massive salary-cap hit because of the move, the Dolphins are a team in rebuild mode. In addition to trading Waddle, the Dolphins also parted with veteran wide receiver Tyreek Hill and veteran defenders Bradley Chubb and Minkah Fitzpatrick earlier this offseason.

The Dolphins have 11 selections in the NFL Draft next week.
