President Donald Trump is among those following the status of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Trump hosted Kansas City, Kansas, barbecue restaurant owners brother Mike and Joe Pearce of Slap’s BBQ at the White House on Monday during a Small Business Summit attended by more than 130 small business owners.
In a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Margo Martin, the president’s special assistant and communications advisor, he is seen speaking with the owners, while viewing Slap’s BBQ sauces and merchandise.
“Most importantly, how is Mahomes doing?” said Trump.
One of the brothers responded: “He’s going to be OK.”
“You tell the people of (Kansas City) we love him. He’s going to be OK,” the POTUS further added.

They then discussed whether Mahomes, who suffered a torn ACL and LCL late in the 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers, would be able to start in the 2026 season opener. He is expected, per multiple reports, to return in time for Week 1.
Over the weekend, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Mahomes.
“He is in a good position to be able to do some things, there are some rules and regulations that go with that,” Reid said.
Reid also confirmed Mahomes is throwing the football and that the 30-year-old will take part in organized team activities (OTAs). These non-contact sessions, scheduled for the last week of May and the first week of June, allow offense and defense to practice on the field.
“He’s fantastic,” Trump said of Mahomes.
