New England Patriots franchise quarterback Drake Maye took over Polar Park on Sunday for the inaugural “Mayeday” Celebrity Softball Classic, proving he is a leader both on the gridiron and in the community. While the star-studded charity event featured deep home runs and plenty of laughs, the most wholesome moment occurred away from the home plate action.
During the festivities, Maye’s wife, Ann Michael Maye, took a moment to reflect on her own high school athletic career. As she spoke, the Patriots’ signal-caller couldn’t help but play the role of the ultimate hype man in the background. Loud enough for everyone to hear, Maye proudly boasted about his wife’s athletic prowess, declaring, “Great athlete. Still is.”

The playful, supportive exchange highlighted a memorable night in Worcester, Massachusetts, which served as the official launch of the couple’s newly established nonprofit, the MayeDay Family Foundation.
Once the softball bats started swinging, the action on the field lived up to the hype. Competing in an offense-heavy battle, Team Patriots squared off against Team Sox. The game featured plenty of fireworks, including a home run derby that raised $54,000 alone after participants smashed 54 total home runs.
Drake Maye showcased his own athleticism by going deep during the game, but Team Sox ultimately flexed their muscles. Powered by multi-home run performances from Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mack Hollins and Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane, Team Sox managed to outslug the home squad.
Despite Team Patriots mounting a fierce rally, which included consecutive home runs from Romeo Doubs, Luke Maye, and Drake Maye, followed later by Ann Michael Maye reaching base on a critical throwing error, Team Sox secured a high-scoring 16-10 victory.
The minor defeat on the scoreboard didn’t dampen the evening. The event raised substantial funds to support children and families enduring hardship, capping off a perfect night for the New England community.
