Dustin Poirier questions Justin Gaethje’s mentality ahead of UFC Freedom 250

UFC legend Dustin Poirier has questioned Justin Gaethje’s mentality heading into UFC Freedom 250 this weekend.

At UFC Freedom 250, Justin Gaethje will attempt to finally become an undisputed UFC world champion when he faces the current lightweight king Ilia Topuria. Unlike Ilia’s showdown with Charles Oliveira, these two have been back and forth a fair bit in the trash talk department.

At the press conference, however, Gaethje implied that winning or losing wasn’t the biggest motivation for him going into this one, although it’s worth noting that he has definitely been trying harder to get under Ilia’s skin since then.

In a recent podcast, Dustin Poirier had the following to say on Gaethje’s mindset.

Poirier discusses Gaethje’s mentality

“I don’t know where his mentality is at really because him saying that Ilia has to deal with everything he has to deal with, with the weather and the bugs the heat whatever, that’s a good mindset to have,” Poirier said on the recent Deep Waters Podcast.

“But when I saw him at the press conference and he was saying, ‘I don’t care if I win or lose, I’m just going to fight’, I don’t like that. I like his mindset on the interview he just did (where he made personal comments).

“If he’s saying, ‘I don’t care whether I win or lose, I just wanna fight’, of course you wanna win, I don’t like that,” Poirier continued.

One way or the other, this one is shaping up to be an absolute barnburner of a fight given how both of these warriors tend to approach big time fights.
