Dustin Rhodes had a blunt response after a fan simply asked whether Goldust would ever return to WWE.
The exchange happened on Twitter when a fan asked Rhodes if fans were ever getting Goldust back again. Rhodes didn’t dodge the question, and he didn’t tease a possible appearance either. Instead, he appeared to reference WWE’s current TKO-era pay cut situation with a very direct answer.
“Worked to hard for my legacy to be tarnished by 50% less pay. NOOOOO! Won’t say it again. Love ya and ty for asking though.”
The response quickly caught attention because it came at the same time reports surfaced claiming multiple WWE talents have recently been approached about taking reduced-money contracts.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the wrestlers involved were allegedly talents WWE no longer viewed as priorities creatively.
“They were people who would have been cut had they not accepted it.”
“The reason you would be asked to renegotiate is because the contract you signed was when they perceived you as being far more valuable than they perceive you as being now.”
It was previously reported that several wrestlers already accepted the newer terms to remain with the company. Although Rhodes never directly mentioned WWE in his tweet, many fans immediately tied the “50% less pay” comment to the ongoing discussion surrounding TKO’s contract restructuring approach.
This also isn’t the first time Rhodes has publicly dismissed the idea of going back. Over the years, he has repeatedly spoken positively about his current situation in AEW while continuing to build his legacy both in the ring and behind the scenes helping younger talent.
Do you think Dustin Rhodes should ever make one final WWE appearance as Goldust, or has his career already ended exactly the way it should? Leave your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
