Dversnes breaks away to deny the sprinters in Milan

Stage 15 of the Giro d’ltalia concluded the second week was completely flat. Voghera hosted the start, and the route headed towards Milan for a final circuit in the city center, which seemed tailor-made for a massive sprint, not very conducive to a breakaway. Yet, that’s exactly what happened. The peloton lacked the strength to neutralize the early breakaway, and Fredrik Dversnes (Uno-X) claimed the biggest victory of his career and gave Uno-X it’s first Giro stage victory.

Times were completely neutralized on the final circuit, the GC contenders stayed away from the front, reducing the risk of crashes on a course that was not very technical, many with potholes.

Dversnes showed the better legs at the end, securing a victory of great importance for Uno-X Mobility, which already had two second places with Andres Leknessund. Maestri was second and Marcelliusi third. Paul Magnier sprinted to fifth place and regained the lead in the Maglia Ciclamino classification.

“Super good help from the other guys in the breakaway, they were really strong today. I knew I had good opportunities because I’m pretty good at going in breaks, so this was my big shot.

With five is to go, of course you start believing but you have to think about what to do and what’s important and not about what happens.

Victory for the team in their first participation in the Giro “is big, it’s really big, it’s an amazing feeling.”

-Fredrik Dversnes
