Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has declined an invitation to attend the UFC card scheduled for the White House South Lawn on June 14. The story was reported by Vanity Fair, which cited a source close to Johnson saying he will not be there.
Vanity Fair reported that representatives for Adam Sandler, Jared Leto, and Mario Lopez said the three would not attend either, while reps for the other invited celebrities did not respond to the outlet’s requests for comment. Vanity Fair added that the White House and UFC did not respond to its questions about the guest list.
The celebrity invitations were detailed in a recent TIME interview with UFC CEO Dana White. According to TIME, White’s guest list ran seven names: Tom Brady, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jared Leto, Guy Ritchie, Adam Sandler, Jason Statham, and Mario Lopez. TIME reported that at least 1,200 of the roughly 4,300 seats will go to active-duty military members, with the remaining seats split among the White House, UFC, and parent company TKO Group Holdings. The report also described a separate viewing party on the nearby Ellipse, expected to draw up to 85,000 people, with a Zac Brown Band performance the night before.
Based on Vanity Fair’s reporting, the invited names who have now said they will not attend are:
- Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
- Adam Sandler
- Jared Leto
- Mario Lopez
Lopez’s representative told HuffPost that he was asked to attend but would not make it due to “work commitments.” Reps for Tom Brady, Guy Ritchie, and Jason Statham had not confirmed their status.
The June 14 event falls on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and has been tied to the lead-up to the country’s 250th anniversary. White has been promoting the card, billed as UFC Freedom 250, with a lightweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje in the main event. White has said the UFC is covering the cost of staging the show.
