Edinburgh AC win the 2026 Lindsays Trophy
Edinburgh AC have been on quite a journey in recent years.
The capital club were top of the podium for the Lindsays Trophy for cross country participation for 2026 the other night – a ‘full circle’ moment after winning the first version of this competition back in 2015.
Like every other club they endured Covid absences from training together in 2020 and 2021 but prior to that had already endured a nomadic period as they had to move out of Meadowbank when the facility was redeveloped. Different groups trained in different locations and there was a disconnect at times.
Now, happily, returning home and a big team effort have been the catalysts for greater competing numbers by EAC at events . . . culminating in the Lindsays Trophy victory with 211 finishers at three National events at Cumbernauld, Lanark and Falkirk.
Here’s a few thoughts from club members . . .
‘A real collective effort to maximise competing numbers at #LindsaysXC by bringing together all the individual parts as transport, entry promotion and completion, coaching, team management, kit and gazebo.’
(Gavin Phillip trustee and runner)
‘The voluntary effort throughout the season to help build courses, run in-house events with goodies, and support large training groups provides continuity between races.’
(Alex MacEwen coach and trustee)

‘A real effort by our club’s team managers and a service to inform about upcoming races and motivate with live results.’
(Lewis Orr coach and runner)
‘A brilliant team spirit captured by several articles in local paper reflecting again inclusion from World champs to women team success to support at higher level competition.’
(John Lenehan of our Finance group)
‘The quiet recognition that role models exist from World Champs at Senior and Masters, down through UK stars, regular club runners who make for winning teams . . . and to all those who take part. Some for over 50 years.’
(Steve Waterston runner, coach and hero)
‘The camaraderie of competition and training icing on the cake . . . is the cake bakers picking up on the ESH and EAC traditions of chocolate biscuits after a tough cross-country run.’
(Ric Clark athlete and safeguarding)
‘Whether it’s the runners who go out there; or the parents and behind the scene doers; or our team managers and coaches; there is a real sense of inclusion quietly managed by EAC safeguarding team and Trustees.’
