Eddie Hearn responds to Dana White over Joshua-Fury

Eddie Hearn responds to Dana White over Joshua-Fury

Eddie Hearn has once again insisted that Dana White will have no involvement in the promotion for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury.

Joshua, who has been promoted by Hearn’s Matchroom since debut, has signed to fight Fury, with the pair expected to deliver their long-awaited heavyweight clash in November.

Hearn claims the contract states that White’s Zuffa Boxing – which is part owned by Saudi Arabia’s Sela – will not be able to have any role in the super fight, despite the UFC boss promising to promote it.

White doubled down on these comments when pressed by Pro Boxing Fans after his inaugural UK Zuffa show in Bournemouth on Saturday.

“Do you think that I would publicly lie and that I would look like a f***ing idiot in front of everybody?” the 56-year-old said.

“Do you believe that I would?

“What would be the point of that?

“Call Eddie right now and ask him if he knows where the fight is.

“Call Eddie and ask him who negotiated the contract for the fight.”

Hearn and White have been embroiled in a public spat since the latter poached Hearn’s prized asset Conor Benn to Zuffa.

The Matchroom Chairman fired back at his promotional rival, asserting that White had no role in negotiations and the fight is signed to take place in the UK.

“Dana White had nothing to do with the fight negotiations,” Hearn told IFLTV.

“It was done between myself and Sela and the entire legal team there.

“He has had a conversation with [Saudi Arabian boxing chief] Turki Alalshikh and told him he should do Fury against AJ in Las Vegas.

“There is a very clear clause in the contract that Zuffa, Dana White, TKO or anybody related can have no involvement in the show.

“The second thing that’s in the contract, at the request of Anthony Joshua and myself [Matchroom] the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury must take place in the UK.”

Earlier this week, Boxing Scene reported the SoFi Stadium in California has been discussed as a potential venue to stage the bout.

Hearn said the location is in the hands of Alalshikh and the contract would have to be renegotiated should it land in the USA.

“If they want to renegotiate the deal, re-do the contract,” he added.

“We may look at that.

“But we agreed to this fight, we signed for this fight, the biggest fight in the history of British boxing, because we want this fight to take place in Britain.”

Joshua will return for the first time since knocking out Jake Paul in December when he faces Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh.

The 36-year-old took a break from boxing after being involved in a horror car crash 10 days later, which killed two of his close friends and left him with minor injuries.

The two-time heavyweight world champion has returned to training camp in Spain alongside former rival-turned-stablemate, Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury, who came out of retirement to beat Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, is also expected to fight before his battle with ‘AJ’ in August.
