Blue Jays: Eddie Micheletti Jr. hits ninth home run as Fisher Cats split doubleheader

Eddie Micheletti Jr.’s strong season continued.

In the second game of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ doubleheader, the Toronto Blue Jays‘ eight-round pick in 2024 hit his ninth home run of the season in what was a 7-5 victory.

Micheletti Jr. continues to be one of the most underrated Blue Jays prospects, hitting at every level he’s been at. Over 55 games this season, the outfielder is slashing .259/.370/.473, with 23 extra base hits.

Despite hitting for power, Micheletti Jr. has always had a K% below 20%. He currently has a 16.4 K% and 13 BB% in his 238 plate appearances, good for a 122 wRC+. On top of that, his nine home runs are fourth-best in the Blue Jays’ system, five behind Sean Keys’ 14 long balls.

Again, this isn’t the first time he’s had this type of season. Last season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, the 24-year-old slashed .228/.375/.418 with 14 home runs in 464 plate appearances.

If he continues to play like he has, he’ll join Keys in Triple-A sooner rather than later.

Other notes…

Also going deep in the 7-5 victory was Victor Arias, who hit his fourth long ball of the season with the Fisher Cats. Jay Harry went 3-4 with three singles, bringing his batting average to .327. That said, the Fisher Cats lost 4-3 in the first game of the doubleheader, with Aaron Parker hitting his fifth home run of the season.
The Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays were rained out, but the High-A Canadian defeated the Everett AquaSox 7-2. Jacob Sharp was the standout performer, hitting his eighth, ninth, and 10th double of the season. Acquired in the Yimi García trade before the 2024 trade deadline, the catcher accounted for all three of the team’s extra-base hits.
As for the other game on tap on Wednesday, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons fell 8-2 to the Syracuse Mets. They only hit one extra-base hit, as Keys hit his first Triple-A triple, driving in one of the two runs the Bisons scored. García had a tough rehab outing.

Tuesday’s games had some storylines as well. The Bisons won that one 7-2, with Josh Rivera, Keys, and Je’Von Ward all hitting a double, while CJ Van Eyk gave up two earned runs over five innings of work.

Two players in the system hit their eighth home run of the season: Dub Gleed and Jay Harry. Both players are off to terrific starts to the seasons after being involved in rather insignificant trades. Harry’s breakout came out of nowhere.

In the same game Harry hit his eight home run, starter Austin Cates struck out seven over five hitless innings. Jorge Burgos and Nick Goodwin also went deep. In the C’s game, Sam Shaw hit his first home run in High-A this season, while Kendry Chirinos hit his third long ball.

It’s a Harry homer in Hartford!!!

Lastly, the D-Jays defeated the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Tuesday, with Juan Sanchez hitting his 10th double of the season. Keep an eye on minor league Rule 5 draftee Hedbert Perez as well.

Not a whole lot happened in the rookie leagues on Monday and Tuesday. Jake Casey went deep for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays on Tuesday, while Angel Guzman hit his fifth long ball of the season on Monday. The FCL Jays lost both games.

As for the two Dominican Summer League teams, the lone home run hit over the four games on Monday and Tuesday belonged to outfielder Aneudi Severino, who hit his second of the season. The DSL Blue Jays Blue won on Monday, the DSL Blue Jays Red won on Tuesday.
