Braxgata defeated Pingouin to rubber-stamp their place at the top of the regular season table in the Carlsberg 0.0 league, taking the first of three EHL Men’s places on offer in Belgium.
Needing a draw to guarantee first without looking at results elsewhere, they were 5-2 winners despite a topsy-turvy battle. Ben Walker and Thibeau Stockbroekx gave them a 2-0 lead before Pingouin replied to make it 2-2 at half-time.
But two goals from Jeff De Winter and one from Marc Reyné saw them race away in the final minutes.
Below them, there was plenty of drama as four sides battled for the three remaining playoff spots.
Orée assured their spot with a 5-3 win over Beerschot, coming back from 2-0 down to win 5-3 and they were the only one of the contenders to land all three points.
Herakles and Waterloo Ducks played out a critical 4-4 result, a point which ultimately helped the Ducks far more than their opponents.
Herakles had led 3-2 and 4-3 but they were pegged back both times, leaving them in fifth place, one point behind Gantoise who also drew.
The Ghent club drew 2-2 at Dragons to just about do enough to get into the final four where they will meet Brax with the WatDucks playing Orée.
