Railway Union won the Irish women’s EY Champions Trophy title to qualify for the EHL for a third successive season, seeing off Loreto in the decider at Hillsborough.

Sarah Patton was the hero, scoring off a penalty corner move in the final quarter for a 2-1 victory.

Youngster Hollai Quinn opened the scoring in the second quarter but the response was immediate with Hannah Matthews providing the decisive touch to lift the ball over Jade Arundell.

After a tense third quarter, Katie Mullan won the vital corner in the closing phase which was worked, via the injector, to Patton to finish off.

Loreto had won the regular EY Hockey League title with Railway in second before the latter club won the Irish Senior Cup a week ago with a 2-0 final win over Monkstown.
