Emma Raducanu’s coaching history has been one of the most talked-about topics in tennis over the last few years.

After all, so many fans have used it as an opportunity to lambast, with the Brit having been a lightning rod for criticism ever since she burst onto the scene in 2021.

Whilst most countries would empower their new world star, the 22-year-old has become one of the most scrutinised talents on the WTA Tour, despite all the physical and mental turmoil she has suffered through her short career.

Well, her latest decision is surely one that nobody can take issue with, having made the decision to announce her latest full-time coach.

For most, this will be a familiar face. It certainly is for Emma Raducanu.

After all, Andrew Richardson is the man who helped guide her to that incredible fairytale US Open title in 2021.

Following on from that triumph, she made the decision to part ways, instead seeking to find a more established coach to help her capitalise on this newfound success. Since then, it has been a tough search for consistency within her camp, as nobody seemed able to offer her the progress she sought.

However, after a brief period of working together, Raducanu has seemingly settled on his familiarity, announcing his return as her full-time coach, as confirmed by The Athletic.

She said: “Grateful to have reconnected with someone who has known me for over a decade now and looking forward to building together one iteration at a time.”

Raducanu will now play in Strasbourg alongside Alex Eala and Madison Keys, before heading to Roland Garros. It will be interesting to see how she gets on alongside Richardson, having dealt with an ongoing illness for months now.

Emma Raducanu’s run to the 2021 US Open title

Having come through qualifying, Raducanu had already succeeded just by securing her spot in the US Open main draw.

Nobody could have predicted the legendary run that was about to occur.

She kick-started her campaign with a first-round win over Stefanie Vögele, before also beating the tricky Chinese veteran, Zhang Shuai, in straight sets.

The third round arguably marked her most complete performance, demolishing Sara Sorribes by a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline.

Shelby Rogers should have represented her first real test, facing an American in front of the New York crowd, but even this Round of 16 clash proved no trouble for Raducanu. She won easily, and then enjoyed her best coup of the tournament thus far by beating Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals.

At this point, this teenage sensation had already stirred up quite a storm. However, she was not done there.

Maria Sakkari was next to face Raducanu’s wrath in the semi-finals, before she beat fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez in the final to become the first player, male or female, to win the US Open after coming through qualifying.

And, she did it all at just 18 years old.
