The Green Bay Packers had many flaws that were exposed down the stretch in the 2025 NFL season. Despite starting the year 5-1-1, they ended up 9-7-1, lost their final four regular season games, and were eliminated from the NFL Playoffs by their hated rivals, the Chicago Bears.
What was so frustrating for many fans down the stretch, especially during their losing streak, was that Green Bay had the lead in many of these games. However, their inability to put opponents away led to fourth-quarter comebacks and narrow heartbreaking losses.
It is something that several players, head coach Matt LaFleur, and general manager Brian Gutekunst have mentioned as something that needs to change in 2026.
Evan Williams says the Green Bay Packers need to learn how to finish games
Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin
Packers safety Evan Williams the most recent of those associated with the team in Green Bay who has talked about their inability to put teams away in 2025. He did so in a recent radio interview with ESPN:
“As a team we got to do a better job of finishing. Emphasizing THE FINISH.”

“I feel like we all just understand how much each play matters now. Looking back at that game [against the Bears] and seeing just how in control of it we were and how it can flip from hands just like that.
“So, as a team, I think we gotta do a better job of just finishing. Emphasizing the finish to every game because there were a couple games last year when he had people on the ropes and let off the pedal a little bit and had them crawling back into the game when we should have just put our foot on their throat.”
While what Williams said was absolutely true, any change that takes place is going to have to come from the play-callers on offense and defense. This means, of course, that LaFleur has to be better with his late-game play-calling on offense, allowing Jordan Love to lead the team on sustained scoring drives even though they may be up my multiple scores.
