Fabio Wardley vs. Daniel Dubois press conference quotes and fight prediction
Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) will soon put his WBO heavyweight world title at stake against Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs).
Their bout headlines a Queensberry Promotions card at the Co-op Live in Manchester, England. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live as a pay-per-view (PPV) with DAZN.
Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their May 9 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.
Fabio Wardley vs. Daniel Dubois press conference quotes
Fabio Wardley
“The thing is, I treat all of my fights like they are world title fights because, especially in this division, it takes one punch to change things,” said Wardley. “[To] change the whole trajectory of your career. You could be up, you could be down all very quickly. So all of my fights were the biggest fights of my career going into them and this is another one on the list. So I’m used to throwing myself in the deep end, used to picking the biggest, the toughest, whoever is out there, the best fight for me and this is no different.”
“It’s been a wild 10 years. It’s been a rollercoaster and on an upward trajectory and things have been going at a high pace. But I came into boxing the same way you see me now. Was just throwing myself in at the deep end, jumping in with guys like Derek Chisora, like Dillian Whyte, like Richard Riakporhe, who have wealths [sic] of bags and bags more of experience than me, and me knowing that if I want to compete at the top level, I need to try and catch them boys up as quick as possible…”
Daniel Dubois
“Very focused,” said Dubois. “Very dialed in and I’ve been there before so I’m on it. And by the way Fabio, I heard you called me the dust man and I’m going to collect the trash, boy. I’m going to collect that trash…I’m going to bust his bubble anyway. That’s what I got to do.”
“I’m there to show my pedigree and [that] there’s levels to this.”
Fight prediction
From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Wardley vs. Dubois is a straight shootout. Both are huge punchers, which makes the event name of “Don’t Blink” even more apt. Wardley has shown he can dig deep into the well and find that fight-ending power late in fights. When he lets his hands go, he puts his punches together well and throws everything with intent.
Dubois is equally heavy-handed and has many highlight-reel stoppages. He has a ramrod jab, and when he starts fast as he did against Anthony Joshua, he’s difficult to unsettle. “Dynamite” has been stopped before, but he showed a granite chin against Filip Hrgović; he won’t want to take many right hands flush on the chin from Wardley.
This is going to be fireworks; we are certain both will have their moments before Wardley stops Dubois in rounds 6-8. This is a difficult one to predict, but it should be an easy one to enjoy.
