Utenos Titani and Jánossomorja’s Rascals remained perfect with strong semifinal performances, and will match up for the Federation Cup Qualifier and promotion to the Federation Cup itself. In the seventh-place game, Bulgaria’s Lions NSA got into the win column against Kyiv.
In the win for the Hungarian hosts, Martin Morua and ex-Cardinals’ farmhand Ramón Ulacio combined for a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts. Ulacio earned the win in relief, punching out 10 consecutive hitters and 11 overall, with the only baserunner reaching on a strikeout with a wild pitch. The right-hander has now struck out 18 in 8.2 innings in the Federation Cup Qualifier, permitting one run on two hits (.067 batting average against) and one walk. Morua, meanwhile, has matched him nearly pitch-for-pitch, and started the game with 3.1 one-hit frames, whiffing five. The righty has 14 Ks and has allowed only six baserunners in 8.2 innings. After an 0-for-3 in the semifinal, Morua is still hitting .571/.600/1.071 with no strikeouts and three stolen bases in four games.
Meanwhile, Lithuania’s Titans featured the two-headed monster of first baseman Lukas Sirgėdas and pitcher Richard Cirigliano in the victory over Tampere. With the club from Utena losing 3-2 in the fourth, Cirigliano came in from centerfield and posted four hitless, shutout innings, sending down six on strikes. He was backed up by Sirgėdas, who ripped a two-run shot in the first, a run-scoring single in the fifth, and a two-run safety in the sixth as part of a 4-for-4, five RBI day. The righty-swinger is hitting .500/.538/1.000, numbers similar to his 2023 Federation Cup Qualifier performance: .625/.650/1.125.
In addition to the title decide between Jánossomorja Rascals and Utenos Titanai, today’s games also feature Kristiansand Suns and Finland’s Tampere Tigers aiming for third place, while Romania’s Thunder Wolves Botoșani and Finland’s Puumat contest five.
