Kevin Nash believes something felt different during WrestleMania week this year, and he says the biggest change was the lack of international fans he normally expects to see.
While speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash broke down his experience during autograph sessions across WrestleMania weekend. He explained that the crowds didn’t feel the same as previous years, especially when it came to hearing fans from overseas. According to Nash, the difference stood out immediately when he noticed the absence of familiar accents he usually hears every year.
Nash explained that in past WrestleMania appearances, he would regularly interact with fans from all over the world, but this time the crowd sounded overwhelmingly American. He connected that change to international travel concerns and what he believes may be discouraging fans from visiting the United States.
“So then you take that into the effect of my first day Thursday. I don’t hear a British, Scottish, Irish, Australian. I don’t hear anybody’s accent except Americans because nobody in the world, including wrestling fans, is going to come to our country and go through our customs and ICE and bull*hit. And we’re not exactly the darlings on Earth right now.”
He went on to describe how the difference showed up in his autograph lines as well. Nash noted that instead of facing nonstop crowds like he usually does during WrestleMania week, there were stretches where fans simply weren’t lined up in the same numbers he expected.
“I couldn’t have most times that I’ve signed during the four hours, it wasn’t because I didn’t have people in front of me. I just didn’t have a line of people in front of me.”
Nash added that the situation reminded him slightly of the period following COVID travel restrictions, when international attendance dropped across many large events. While he didn’t say turnout was that low, he made it clear the atmosphere still felt noticeably different compared to the peak WrestleMania travel years.
“It wasn’t as bad as like the year after COVID, but it kind of had a little bit of that feel.”
WrestleMania has long been known as a global destination event, drawing fans from Europe, Australia, and beyond for an entire week of shows, signings, and fan experiences. Nash’s comments suggest that if fewer international fans are traveling, it could change the overall feel of WrestleMania week and impact the business side of the event as well.
If international attendance really is shifting, it raises questions about how travel conditions and global perception could affect future WrestleMania weekends and the fan experience that surrounds them.
