The SF-26 will have to maintain the same configuration throughout the entire day of running.
100 km each for Leclerc and Hamilton
“In Miami we will bring a package and a half of updates,” Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur had already previewed during the Suzuka weekend.
Today, Ferrari will test all these developments at Monza during the filming day that the Scuderia from Maranello has decided to “spend” (two are available over the course of the entire season, and Ferrari is using the first one today) in order to arrive in Miami with additional data on what has been developed back at the factory.
The Florida weekend will feature the Sprint format, meaning there will be only one free practice session before teams must immediately push in Sprint Qualifying, which will determine the starting grid for Saturday’s Sprint race.
According to today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, Ferrari will test several updates at Monza today: new wings, a revised floor, and other aerodynamic components.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will split the 200 kilometres available between them, with laps completed under conditions where the Ferrari SF-26 must remain in a single configuration. As a result, no comparative back-to-back testing will be possible.
Ferrari drivers, after the first three races of the season, had highlighted that power remains the most critical weakness in comparison with Mercedes.
The updates tested today at Monza are expected to have an impact on aerodynamic efficiency, while in terms of pure power unit performance Ferrari will have to wait for the new internal combustion engine upgrade scheduled for the summer period.
