For the first time since the 2022 season, Deandra Dottin will return to Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) after being selected by the Melbourne Renegades in the player draft on Sunday. The Renegades will mark Dottin’s fourth WBBL franchise, following successful stints with the Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, and Adelaide Strikers.
Dottin’s return to the WBBL adds another exciting chapter to her already illustrious career. The hard-hitting all-rounder, recently named in the West Indies squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup set to take place from October 3-20 in the UAE, will be reunited with her Windies teammate Hayley Matthews in Melbourne. The pair previously played together in the WBBL, and their partnership will be crucial as the Renegades aim for a strong season.
Hayley Matthews, the West Indies captain, will be looking to bounce back from a challenging 2023 WBBL season. Last year, she scored 255 runs in 14 innings, averaging 19.61 with a top score of 46. However, Matthews showed her prowess with the ball, taking 14 wickets at an average of 27.64. With Dottin’s explosive batting and Matthews’ all-round skills, the Renegades will be a formidable team this season.
The 2024 WBBL season will run from October 26 to November 30, with the Renegades kicking off their campaign against the Sydney Sixers on October 27 at the Adelaide Oval. Fans eagerly await the duo’s performance, hoping for a season filled with fireworks.
