The forgotten Wales forward impressed for Exeter
Wales international Christ Tshiunza scored a sensational individual try in Exeter Chiefs’ Gallagher Prem semi-final against Bath at the Rec.
With Chiefs trailing 14-3 a lovely pass from outside-half Harvey Skinner allowed Tshiunza to accelerate through a gap before side-stepping Santiago Carreras and diving acrobatically to score.
“A play-off moment for the archives for the galloping giraffing Christ Tshiunza,” said lead TNT Sports commentator Nick Mullins,
Tshiunza’s try also won the admiration of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning lock Ben Kay who is now a respected pundit.
“Wow! What a finish from Tshiunza,” said Kay who was in co-commentary on TNT Sports.
“He’s got such a powerful running game hasn’t he but he combines that with a bit of footwork.
“Santi (Santiago Carreras) is thinking I’ve got to stand big for this because he’s going to run through me.
“So he plants his feet to give him that power in the tackle and Tshiunza just dances round him.
“He’s been watching far too much of Chris Ashton!”
The versatile 24-year-old, who was wearing the number seven shirt against Bath, has not played for Wales since November 2024 and was not included in Steve Tandy’s summer squad for the inaugural Nations Championship.
Tshiunza has won 15 caps for Wales and will be leaving Exeter for Sale Sharks in the summer making it unclear whether he remains eligible for selection under the Welsh Rugby Union’s controversial 25-cap law.

If Tshiunza did not receive a competitive offer from a Welsh club he will remain eligible for Wales selection, although WalesOnline understands there was interest from Cardiff.
Injury has held the former Whitchurch High School pupil back in recent seasons but there is no doubt he has the physical and athletic potential to force his way back into the Wales reckoning.
