The violent burglary took place on the morning of May 19 at his home in Nyon, about 25 km north of Geneva, Swiss outlet Blick reported.

Police confirmed that a family were victims of a targeted robbery but did not identify Prost, 71, or any other family members involved.

“Several masked individuals entered the house,” police said in a statement. “Once inside, they threatened the occupants and slightly injured one family member in the head.”

Cops added that “the perpetrators then forced another family member to open a safe before fleeing,” it added.

Search on for robbers

A “large-scale search operation” was launched involving police in Switzerland and France as well as border security, as Nyon lies on the shores of Lake Geneva, which sits between the two countries.

A psychological support team has also been provided to the family, police said.

Contacted by AFP on Saturday, a Vaud police spokesman said the investigation was still ongoing but could not reveal whether any arrests had been made.

“Every effort is being made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack,” a Vaud police spokesperson told AFP.
