Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a breathtaking knock against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Nation final on Sunday. The 15-year-old prodigy raced to a half-century in just 11 balls, scripting the record of the fastest in List-A history, before finishing with a staggering 94 off just 29 deliveries. Amid the Sooryavanshi blitz, former South Africa cricketer Daryll Cullinan has raised concerns about the physical toll of playing constant cricket on the teenager.

Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi topped the run charts in IPL 2026 with an impressive tally of 776 runs, winning the Most Valuable Player award.

Following the Tri-Nation ‘A’ series, Sooryavanshi is set to travel to Ireland for a two-match T20I series, before heading to England for the five-T20I series. Former Proteas player, Cullinan is worried about the physical toll that continuous cricket can have on the southpaw.

“I’m in awe of this young man, but what’s bothering me, and no one is talking about it, is injuries,” he wrote on his LinkedIn profile. “At 15, swinging a big bat, playing so much cricket, I fear for his wrists, elbows, the smaller joints and areas. What does medical opinion say? Remember, Sachin’s career almost got cut short by a bad elbow. He definitely would not have been swinging so hard so often as Sooryavanshi.

“I think he would be on a fairly strict routine. It’s the fact that he is still growing, and so too are the joints, ligaments, and muscles, I would presume. They will be taking strain, I can assure you.”

He further wrote, “I know of a good few guys who picked up chronic wrist problems. The thing is, we were using lighter bats and playing far less cricket. He is still growing, which needs to be remembered. Today’s training and recovery methods will help, but I do fear for his long-term future and health.”
