Former WWE talent Sidney Akeem says he may soon be headed to All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor full-time. During a recent interview, Akeem opened up about his unusual path from Cirque du Soleil performer to WWE television and revealed that a deal with AEW/ROH is currently being worked on.
Speaking on the Rewind Recap Relive podcast with R3 Jonah, Akeem reflected on how far his career has already taken him.
“Because of where I come from and as a kid from St. Louis, my options as an adult were very limited. And now to think that I made it to the mountaintop in the circus world, I made it to WWE, I wrestled for TNA. And now, I am in the midst of getting a deal done with AEW…Ring of Honor.”
Akeem has already wrestled several matches for Ring of Honor under both the Sidney Akeem and Soleil names. He also admitted that the reaction to Soleil in ROH meant even more to him than his WWE debut.
“What is this life that I’m living? And it felt so great to not only debut on Ring of Honor. I’ve done that years ago. But to put something that was so close and personal, Soleil, on Ring of Honor, and then to get see the reception that it got … I mean in some ways it’s better than my WWE debut.”
Many fans still remember Akeem from his time in WWE as Reginald Thomas, Carmella’s sommelier character. After spending time with Cirque du Soleil, he debuted on SmackDown in late 2020 and had his first WWE match against Sasha Banks in January 2021. Now it sounds like the next chapter of his wrestling career could officially be happening in AEW and ROH.
