Forza Horizon 6 has been out for one week, with the Premium Edition launching on 15 May, followed by the Standard Edition on 19 May. In that time, the open-world racer has surpassed a staggering six million players in its first week, Playground Games has confirmed.
The announcement comes after it tripled Forza Horizon 5’s Steam player count this week. The Premium Edition peaked at 181,775 players on launch day, increasing to 273,148 on the Standard Edition’s launch day. At the time of writing, its peak Steam player count has increased to 284,139, according to SteamDB.
Congratulating Playground Games, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma hailed Forza Horizon 6 as the “most played Early Access in series history.” It’s also currently the global top-selling game on Steam.
However, this latest milestone provides a clearer picture of Forza Horizon 6’s player numbers, across Steam, Xbox and Game Pass. In particular, the Game Pass subscription service will have likely boosted the player count significantly, giving players access to the game at no extra charge.
Its player count will no doubt get another massive boost when the PS5 launches later this year, but a release date is yet to be confirmed.
Forza Horizon 6 is universally acclaimed, with an average Metacritic score of 91. “Solid, refined and built upon over the years, it doesn’t really matter if many elements are carry-overs from prior editions,” we wrote in our review.
“Playing through this ginormous experience, 15-20 hours for the main events alone, is rewarding and smile-inducing. It could even be the series acme. And oh, the location, this is the apogee of open-world driving experiences.”
