Frank Warren Opens Up on Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley 2

Frank Warren labelled Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley’s fight as the greatest heavyweight clash he’s ever seen.

Wardley has activated his rematch clause against Dubois, and Warren has discussed just how big their second fight could become.

The pair faced off just over a week ago in Manchester in front of a record-breaking attendance for a boxing event inside an indoor arena at the Co-op Live.

‘DDD’ got the better of Wardley despite hitting the canvas in the first and third rounds. He put together a barrage of attacks, forcing the referee to halt the contest in the 11th round.

Promoter Warren announced immediately after the final bell that the former world champion had the option of a rematch with ‘Dynamite.’

With the man from Ipswich triggering that option, Warren spoke to TalkSport about how monumental the rematch could be.

“I genuinely do believe it’ll end up in a stadium.

“I think it will happen. This heavyweight division is so exciting, there are so many great fights.”

Many were surprised by Wardley triggering the rematch just six days on from the loss after the damage he took in the fight.

His coach, Ben Davison, has come under criticism on social media, with some believing he should have pulled his fighter out before the referee was forced to step in.

Ade Oladipo spoke to Pro Boxing Fans and admitted he expected the 31-year-old to take an extended spell out of the ring.

“I said that Fabio needs a break, and I love Fabio more than most, but I said, ‘Fabio, four of your last five fights have been hard.

“Physically hard, mentally hard, emotionally hard; it is okay to say, ‘Do you know what, let me just pause for a little while and come back.’”

Oladipo did continue to provide an insight into why Wardley may want an immediate rematch and where his motivations may come from.

“We are just human beings saying that. Fabio is not a normal human being, he’s not a normal person and he wants his belts back.

“Let’s not forget as well, he was in a tough fight with Frazer Clarke, took an immediate rematch and knocked him out in about a minute, so he will have the confidence that he can hurt Daniel.

“He will think, ‘I put him down twice, I hurt him on many occasions.’

“The biggest factor is the pay cheque, the pay cheque is going to be considerably bigger and it is going to go to a stadium, why would you turn that down?”

Just 10 days on from their first fight, it will likely be a while before an official announcement regarding a date or venue for the pair’s rematch is made, although Warren did touch on the possibility of a November showdown as a stadium rematch now appears inevitable.
