Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, has expressed confidence that Ghana’s World Cup campaign can be judged a success if the team advances beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, setting up a challenging path to the knockout rounds.
Ghana, four-time African champions, are aiming to improve on their previous World Cup outings in 2014 and 2022, when they failed to progress from the group stage.
According to Pappoe, reaching the next round should be the minimum benchmark for success, given the expanded structure of the tournament.
“I will consider success if Ghana is able to go the next round of the World Cup, and with how the tournament has been structured, a win will see us through to the next round,” he told Sporty FM.
Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, Carlos Queiroz’s side will play pre-World Cup friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2 as part of their final preparations.
The final squad for the tournament is expected to be announced on June 1.
