Stan Wawrinka will actually not need his wildcard for the French Open this year.

Wawrinka is retiring from tennis at the end of the 2026 season, bringing an end to his decorated career.

As a former French Open champion, Wawrinka was announced as one of the eight wildcards for the men’s singles draw.

Wawrinka was also only one withdrawal away from gaining direct entry into the tournament, and after Lorenzo Musetti pulled out of the French Open, the clay court major have announced their wildcard replacement.

Clement Tabur receives final wildcard for the French Open

With Wawrinka making his way into the main draw directly through his ranking, the French Open have now announced that he will be replaced by Clement Tabur.

Tabur is a 26-year-old Frenchman, who recently reached a career-high ranking of world number 167.

He is also a former junior Australian Open doubles champion, but Tabur is yet to win a singles match at a senior Grand Slam.

Tabur made his Grand Slam main draw debut last year after coming through qualifying at the French Open.

However, Tabur was beaten in the first round by his compatriot Corentin Moutet in straight sets.

Tabur will not need to go through qualifying this year, and instead will join other wildcards Gael Monfils, Moise Kouame, Hugo Gaston, Arthur Gea, Titouan Droguet, Nishesh Basavareddy and Adam Walton.

What will happen to Lorenzo Musetti’s ranking after withdrawing from the French Open

While Tabur has been handed a big boost ahead of the French Open, Musetti is about to be given an even greater setback due to a thigh injury.

Last year, Musetti reached the French Open semifinals for the first time in his career, and was actually a set up on eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Musetti has also lost a significant amount of ranking points during the clay court season and is set to drop outside the top 10 after the Italian Open, but this is not the end of his fall down the rankings.

As he is dropping 800 points from his ranking at the French Open, Musetti could even fall outside the top 15 after the French Open.

Musetti will now have to wait until at least the grass court season until he can attempt to make his way back up the rankings.
