Fury-Joshua Wembley showdown hinges on ONE factor

Fury-Joshua Wembley showdown hinges on ONE factor

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have signed to fight each other, but the location of their colossal heavyweight showdown has a stumbling block.

Fury and Joshua will meet in the arguably the biggest all-British fight of all-time in November, provided ‘AJ’ beats Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh.

The 90,000-seat capacity Wembley Stadium is the desired venue for both parties and fans, but Saudi Arabian boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh who is funding the event will only deliver it there on one condition.

Alalshikh has reportedly insisted that three-time Grammy Award winner, Dua Lipa must perform in order for the fight to land at the national stadium.

Alalshikh announced the fight on Monday on X: “To my friends in Great Britain  – it’s happening. It’s signed.”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn also confirmed the bout in a post on Instagram, which read: “Signed, sealed, delivered! AJ v Fury is on!”

Moments after Alalshikh’s post, Joshua’s comeback clash against Prenga was announced.

The 36-year-old will fight for the first time since knocking out Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami in December.

The two-time heavyweight world champion was involved in a fatal car crash 10 days later in Nigeria which took the lives of two of his close friends.

The Watford man escaped with minor injuries and has since returned to training camp in Spain alongside former rival, Oleksandr Usyk.

“It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring and today is the next step on that journey,” Joshua said.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off. As I said. The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain.”

Fury ended his latest retirement with a unanimous decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month and engaged in a furious war of words with ‘AJ’ who watched on from ringside.

‘The Gypsy King’ said afterwards he would retire again if he was unable to secure a long-awaited meeting with his rival, although his manager Spencer Brown claimed this week that he may have another tune-up bout.

“If it ain’t Anthony Joshua next, I’m not interested in boxing,” the 37-year-old said.

“I’ll eat a thousand Easter eggs, go up to 35 stone, I’m out.

“I’m not interested. It’s either him or I’m gone again.

“I’m not interested at all. I’m not interested in up-and-comers.

“I’m not interested in someone trying to prove a point over me. I don’t care.

“I don’t care about rankings, I don’t care about belts. I only care now about AJ.

“That fight, that’s the defining fight for British boxing. It’s either going to happen or it’s not.”
