Gabby Thomas finishes African Tour with win at Botswana Grand Prix at 100 meters!

The third and final meet of the African Tour for Gabby Thomas gave her five/five, five starts, five wins.

Gabby ran the 100 meters in 10.95, her personal best, and first time under 11 seconds! After a superb race in Botswana, Gabby decided to withdraw from the 200 meters following her big 100-meter win!

What a great win for Gabby and a superb breakthrough at the 100 meters. Gabby Thomas is one of the finest 200-meter runners in the world. Her racing over 100 meters can only help her develop over the 200 meters. Gabby Thomas has run 10.95 seconds at the 100 meters, 21.60 seconds at the 200 meters, and 49.68 seconds at the 400 meters.

Gabby Thomas overcame a difficult 2025, with a good recovery, rehab, and build-up.

What fans do not appreciate is how arduous it is to rebuild one’s fitness after an injury. The Achilles injury is something to be patient about, and the rehabilitation is difficult and long. Gabby Thomas is a sprint warrior. Her five races in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Gaborone are adding to her global stardom as well. Gabby’s 10.95 PB will pretty much show up in her 200-meter forays in 2026, and watch out for Gabby Thomas over the 400 meters, perhaps her finest distance, although many will argue with me over the former Harvard sprinter’s prowess in the long sprints!

The Olympic champion started off well in Addis Ababa (April 18), with a double over 100m/200m. In Nairobi, in front of a full stadium at the Kip Keino Classic, Gabby entertained the huge crowd with 100m and 200m wins. Gabby’s final stop featured a huge moment: the 10.95 seconds was her first time under 11 seconds in the 100 meters, giving Gabby Thomas a huge confidence boost in her 100-meter speed!

The 2026 Botswana Golden Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, was held on April 26 at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
