Is Gable Stevenson already seasoned enough to take out UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall?
The hype train for Steveson is rolling, leaving many fans eager to see if the Olympic gold medalist can live up to expectations. So far, Steveson is 3-0 as a professional MMA fighter, and he has a quick knockout win under the Dirty Championship Boxing banner. With an impressive start to his combat sports career, Steveson has already signed a UFC contract.
During an interview with talkSPORT BET, former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley shared his firm stance on Steveson’s ceiling. He believes Steveson would already give Aspinall serious issues inside the Octagon.
“Gable Stevenson will become heavyweight champion,” Woodley said. “He can do it this year if he wants to. Tom Aspinall will get tortured by Gable right now. Tom looked sloppy against Ciryl Gane before he got poked in the eye. Gable has got powerful hands, all his fights are finishes. He has crazy wrestling, crazy athletic ability.
“He’s hungry. You think he’s still happy about losing the NCAA championship in the last three seconds? Hell no. I don’t see a matchup in the UFC now at heavyweight that he does not win.”
Aspinall has been out of action since his Oct. 2025 clash with Ciryl Gane, which ended prematurely due to an accidental eye poke. Aspinall had a procedure done on both of his eyes, and he is optimistic about returning to the Octagon in full health. In the meantime, an interim heavyweight title fight between Gane and Alex Pereira will be taking place at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14.
Steveson’s first opponent under the UFC banner has not been made official at this time. UFC CEO Dana White said the matchmakers are working to find an opponent that matches up with Steveson’s level at this point in his young fighting career.
