Gage Goldberg Reveals His Goal To Step Out Of Bill Goldberg’s Shadow

Gage Goldberg knows exactly what comes with carrying one of wrestling’s most recognizable last names, and he isn’t running from the pressure.

While speaking with Memphis in May at the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, Bill Goldberg’s son opened up about trying to carve out his own identity while continuing the legacy created by his father inside the wrestling ring and on the football field. The conversation began with Gage discussing his experience playing football at Colorado under Deion Sanders and how much it means to continue the family legacy.

Gage Goldberg: “Oh, yeah. I feel great. I mean, I’ve always wanted to continue his legacy. I feel like there’s always been the shadow of it. So, I mean, I’m just trying to do exactly what he did and maybe do it even better.”

The interviewer then asked Gage how he handles constantly being connected to the Goldberg name and whether he embraces the pressure or tries to overcome it.

Interviewer: “I mean how do you deal with, you know, you say that shadow, but do you just step into it or you just like, hey, I’m going to get this done. I’m going to top it.”

Gage admitted that the expectations have followed him his entire life, but he’s determined to eventually create his own legacy.

Gage Goldberg: “I mean, I’ve been having to deal with it my whole life. I mean, I’ve just been overcoming it and just trying to do exactly what he’s been doing and live up to that legacy and then hopefully get over the shadow and become a better badass than he was.”

With Gage continuing to develop under Deion Sanders’ program, fans are already keeping a close eye on whether the Goldberg legacy could eventually expand beyond wrestling and into another level of football success.
