Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praise on Rajasthan Royals (RR) young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his fearless approach and remarkable performances in the ongoing 2026 IPL season.
Speaking on Jiostar, Gavaskar highlighted Sooryavanshi’s ability to execute his shots with control. “He made excellent use of the field and picked the line beautifully,” Gavaskar said. “The way he strikes the ball with such ease and power is remarkable.”
The 15-year-old is in brilliant hitting form. He is a leading contender for the Orange Cap, having scored 400 runs from nine matches so far, with an average of 44.44 and an incredible strike rate of 238.09. His tally includes one century and two fifties, and he has also hammered 36 sixes, the most this season.
Gavaskar feels Sooryavanshi’s mindset is the key reason behind his success. “What stands out is how unfazed he looks. That’s often the advantage of youth. You play without fear, without worrying about the opposition, and just back your natural game,” the former India opener explained.
Sooryavanshi has been a crucial part of Rajasthan’s strong 2026 IPL campaign, as they have registered six wins from nine matches and are currently sitting third in the points table. They will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 1 in Jaipur.
