Great Britain went down 5-1 to the USA in their second game of the IIHF World Championships on Sunday.

USA went ahead following a goalmouth scramble, with Paul Cotter reacting first to score from close range at 13:55.

Josh Waller and Brett Perlini combined to set up Nathanael Halbert, who fired top shelf from just inside the blueline to tie the game at 28:39. However, Isaac Howard put the USA back ahead just under three minutes before the end of the period.

Mathieu Olivier, a deflected Declan Carlile shot, and Howard again saw the USA run away with the game in the final period.

A battling performance from GB saw them beaten, but with their heads held high. Elsewhere in the group, Austria beat Hungary to set up a potential ‘winner takes all’ clash with the Hungarians in GB’s next game, although each team still has games to play and possible points to gain after that fixture.
