Gervonta Davis Calls Out Devin Haney for Potential Superfight Negotiations

Gervonta “Tank” Davis has reignited one of boxing’s most talked-about rivalries, directly calling out WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney on social media.

Using his new anonymous account on X, Davis posted a blunt challenge aimed at Haney:

The message immediately set the boxing world abuzz, as it marked the first significant public callout from Davis in the past year.

Devin Haney and ‘Tank’ Davis Trash Talk

Haney quickly caught wind of Davis’ apparent insult and responded within minutes of the cryptic account post. Haney, who holds a 33-0 (15 KOs) record, quickly responded to the jab with his own post on X:

Haney referenced Davis’ alleged drug use, saying he would beat the “pills and tusi” out of “Tank.”

“Tank,” however, was not afraid to respond to Haney’s comments with a display of wealth, posting a photo of wads of cash and a designer watch:

“No more talk. I’ll see you,” Davis responded.

Haney then instructed Davis to have Premier Boxing Champions founder Al Haymon call his team to discuss terms for a potential fight, to which “Tank” also responded:

Haney then fired another shot at Davis, claiming that “Tank” and his team had responded behind the scenes:

“Tank” implied a confirmation of Haney’s claim, with his own cryptic post:

This revelation from both Davis and Haney suggests that discussions are more advanced than simple social media posturing.

Rehydration Clause

When a fan warned Haney not to agree to any rehydration restrictions, he shot down the idea immediately.

“Never,” Haney said on X, firmly rejecting the possibility of a clause limiting his fight-night weight.

Rehydration clauses were a major point of contention in Davis’s 2023 fight with Ryan Garcia.

Haney’s team has confirmed they will not be bullied into accepting such a stipulation this time.

Davis, however, let Haney know who the real “A” side is when it comes to negotiations:

‘Tank’ Ring Return

The exchange represents a significant shift, as Davis has been largely absent from the ring for nearly 16 months and has been dealing with legal troubles concerning his alleged abusive behavior toward his ex-girlfriend.

Davis’s recent silence had led to widespread speculation about his future, with his WBA lightweight title status now in question.

His last outing was a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, a result some observers felt should have gone against him.

The history between the two champions is deep, with Haney repeatedly pursuing the matchup during his lightweight title run. Despite years of public callouts and fan demand, the fight never materialized while both were campaigning in the same division.

Now, with Haney campaigning at welterweight, a fight would require a complex negotiation regarding weight. A welterweight fight may be unrealistic for Davis, who has never fought above 140 pounds.

The back-and-forth signals that Davis is finally willing to entertain the matchup he has dodged for years.

However, significant obstacles remain beyond just the weight and egos involved.

Haney is currently under pressure from the WBO to face his mandatory challenger, Keyshawn Davis, or risk being stripped of his title. According to Ring Magazine, the WBO has also confirmed that an exception will not be granted for Haney to pursue another bout.

This mandatory obligation creates a tight timeline that could complicate negotiations for a fight with Gervonta Davis.

As of now, no official agreement has been announced, and no fight has been confirmed. However, Haney’s claim that Davis’s team made contact is the clearest indication in years that discussions have taken place.

Boxing fans can only wait and see if this long-awaited showdown finally becomes a reality.
