Green Bay Packers Linked To Veteran WR In A Possible Late Free Agency Boost For Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers head into the 2026 season with one of the league’s top quarterbacks at the helm in Jordan Love. Since taking over for Aaron Rodgers, Love has established himself as a rising star, and expectations are high that he could take another step forward this year.

As a result, the Packers have already begun reshaping the receiving group around Jordan Love. During the NFL offseason, Green Bay saw Romeo Doubs leave the team to sign with the New England Patriots after serving as one of Love’s main targets over the past couple of seasons. The Packers also moved Dontayvion Wicks in a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sporting News’ Dharya Sharma has suggested that the Green Bay Packers could consider targeting Deebo Samuel late in free agency.

Right now, the Green Bay Packers feature a wide receiver group led by Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, and Savion Williams. While the group offers plenty of upside, questions still linger about consistency and proven production. That has led to growing discussion about whether Green Bay should still pursue a veteran wideout to support Jordan Love, a move that at least one recent proposal has strongly recommended.

“At this stage of his career, Samuel is more of an intermediate threat, as he had just four catches over 20 yards last year. However, that is the type of receiver the Packers need to pair with Watson, Golden, and Reed, who all possess game-breaking speed,” Sharma wrote in their article.

Sharma also pointed out that a potential move for the 30-year-old could directly affect the roles of Reed and Golden in the Green Bay Packers’ offense.

“Reed and Golden would be most affected by a Samuel signing, as those two also do a ton of their work in the slot. But that shouldn’t be an issue because Samuel and Golden also have the ability to play on the outside compared to Reed, who has logged 75% of his career snaps in the slot.”

Last season with the Washington Commanders, Deebo Samuel appeared in 16 games, finishing with 72 catches for 727 yards and five touchdowns.
