The Green Bay Packers have a recent track record of taking a chance on a quarterback in the later rounds of the NFL Draft, including the seventh round. NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter projects that Green Bay could once again go that route in the 2026 NFL Draft.
In his seven-round mock draft released on Saturday, Reuter projected the Packers to select Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar with the No. 236 pick in the seventh round. That choice would be one of two seventh-round selections for Green Bay, which also holds the No. 255 overall pick, awarded as a compensatory selection.
Aguilar spent three seasons as a starter during his college career. In 2025, he guided the Tennessee Volunteers to an 8-5 record. Across 38 collegiate appearances, he totaled 10,325 passing yards and 80 touchdown throws.
The Green Bay Packers ahead of this year’s NFL Draft
If the Packers do not make another roster addition before the 2026 NFL Draft, they will enter the first round on April 23 carrying three quarterbacks. Jordan Love holds the starting job, while Desmond Ridder has moved into the backup role this offseason. The team also lost former reserve Malik Willis to free agency.
The Packers added 2025 sixth-round selection Kyle McCord this offseason on a reserve/futures deal, positioning him as the team’s QB3.

Analysts have also connected the Packers to other possible backup options, including veteran Kirk Cousins in free agency and Anthony Richardson in ongoing trade speculation.
If the Packers opt against pursuing a trade for Anthony Richardson, taking a late-round shot on Joey Aguilar could be a logical move. The 25-year-old brings extensive college experience and may provide more developmental upside than Kyle McCord.
