Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29, according to social media posts from his agency, Priority Sports, and the Grizzlies organization on Tuesday morning.
Clarke
was drafted in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft and spent his entire seven-year career with Memphis.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the Grizzlies said in a statement. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The circumstances regarding Clarke’s death are still unconfirmed at the moment.
He was a standout player for the Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball in college and carved out a role as a capable rebounder and rim protector with the Grizzlies. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2020.
In 309 career NBA games, Clarke averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and shot 60.5 percent from the field.
