Lewis Hamilton addressed talks of the FIA being able to fix the fundamental flaws of the current regulations amid the growing dissent.
The Scuderia Ferrari driver was one of many quizzed about the possibility of the FIA and F1 implementing adjustments to the regulations. Hamilton was further pressed on whether the consistent tweaks being implemented by the sport’s governing body will translate into a lasting fix in the regulations.
Speaking to GPblog, however, the seven-time world champion opted for a wait-and-see approach before casting his verdict on the changes being made. While expressing hopes that things do improve, Hamilton noted how the Miami Grand Prix weekend will serve as the litmus test for the changes recently rolled out.
“I’m not going to say that ever. I imagine they will continue to improve through the year. We’ll find out this weekend whether that change was made. It’s good to see that they are making changes; whether or not it’s enough, we’ll see this weekend. I don’t want to say I don’t really feel much different. So it’ll be interesting to see how that impacts us when we’re on the track, when we’re qualifying,” he said.
Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, the FIA announced a series of tweaks to the current regulations, all aimed at improving the racing spectacle, which has continued to be met with criticism through the first three races of the campaign.
Hamilton agrees with Verstappen
Earlier, Hamilton echoed the sentiments of Max Verstappen about the FIA and F1 involving drivers in the design of regulations. The 41-year-old explained how drivers are often laden with insights that can help shape and improve the overall dynamics of the regulations.
The seven-time world champion doubled down on his claim by emphasising the need for drivers to have a seat at the FIA decision-making table. Hamilton highlighted how integral this will be in strengthening the relationship between drivers, the FIA, and F1.
