Hardik Pandya will join the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad in Raipur tonight, RevSportz understands. The MI captain has taken a flight to the capital of Chhattisgarh where his team will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their IPL fixture on Sunday. RevSportz reported this morning that the squad expected Hardik to arrive before the RCB game.
Hardik, though, is recovering from back spasms and a question mark remains over his participation in Sunday’s game. The squad will have a couple of optional practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, and MI’s medical team will assess the all-rounder before taking a call. Hardik missed MI’s previous match against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on May 4 and Suryakumar Yadav led the side in his absence.
Surya and wife Devisha Shetty were blessed with a baby girl on Thursday. “With giggles, bows, and dreams to unfurl – we welcome our baby girl,” posted India’s T20I captain on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Obviously, Surya hasn’t joined the MI squad in Raipur, and as this website already reported, he would take a call based on how things are at home.
In case both Hardik and Surya miss out, Tilak Varma, along with Jasprit Bumrah, is considered to be an option for stand-in captaincy against RCB.
