Patience will be the key tomorrow, believes George Hill, as Yorkshire aim to wrap up their third Rothesay County Championship win of the season tomorrow.
Warwickshire, chasing 453, will begin day four on 44-1.
Hill was a significant contributor to Yorkshire’s day-three performance. He struck once with the ball at the end of the Bears’ first innings and again at the start of their second. Sandwiched in between, he posted an eye-catching 65 not out as the White Rose totalled 246-6 declared in their second innings.
The all-rounder said: “It’s obviously spinning, and hopefully it gets a bit worse and goes up and down. It’s a touch slower than it has been here in the past.
“We’d have definitely taken that position, for sure.
“We’ve not got to strive for it and be patient.
“I’m sure Bessy will get to work and plug in for the majority of the day from one end.
“It was nice to spend a bit of time batting in the middle. With it spinning, it was a different sort of innings for me. I was knocking it around and playing my sweeps, which I worked on over the winter. It was nice to see that pay off.
“Batting with Jonny is always good. He keeps you calm. It was a nice partnership.
“As I say, I’m sure Bessy will play a big part.
“He’s a top-class bowler, and he’s got a good record here. He’s on the honours board a couple of times.
“One more would have been nice tonight, but we come back tomorrow fresh and with a good night’s sleep behind.
“Hopefully we can get the job done.”
