The 25/26 Newcastle United season has now become history.
It is time to look forward, to what the future holds.
It is a pretty much universal opinion that last season fell below expectation.
Although it did take two of Europe’s top teams to end our runs in the three cup competitions that Newcastle United were involve in.
The Premier League a totally different matter. Inconsistent results and amazingly, a defence that changed from one of the meanest in the division to one that gave away more presents than Santa.
The biggest plus going into the new season is that in spite of some calling for his head, we still have Eddie Howe.
With football being football though, we all know that can change in the blink of an eye.
As well as delivering the first Newcastle United domestic silverware in my lifetime, Eddie Howe has also added value to the vast majority of players in his squad.
We are now entering what is possibly the most important window since the Newcastle United owners bought the cub from Mike Ashley in October 2021.
So by September we should have a decent idea of how this Newcastle United season will go, based on the quality of business NUFC do during this summer 2026 trading period.
In addition, the major difference in this window compared to last year, is that the responsibility for getting deals over the line lies mainly with Sporting Director Ross Wilson. Summer 2025 saw the club operating without a Sporting Director (ED: As well as no CEO active at NUFC), with responsibility falling on those less senior last summer to try and get Eddie Howe’s signings landed.
An opportunity now for the Head Coach to take a short break from football and come back refreshed and ready to go again.
I feel positive about the upcoming season with Newcastle United.
History tells us that when Eddie Howe is given the tools, he will produce the goods.
