Holger Rune is set to return to the ATP Tour already, just seven months after snapping his Achilles at the Stockholm Open.
Rune is set to play the Hamburg Open as his first tournament, with the event taking place between the 17th and the 23rd May.
The Dane was incredibly positive about his injury and stepped up his comeback almost straight after snapping his Achilles at the Stockholm Open.
Ahead of his first appearance back on the ATP Tour, Rune has outlined his main goal upon return to the sport.

Holger Rune outlines his goal ahead of tennis return
The Dane is one of the brightest young talents on the ATP Tour and his return will be welcomed by tennis fans.
The star has been ranked as high as world number four in the rankings, but he is not expecting to return that high any time soon.
Speaking about his return, he said: “It’s been a long process so far, and we’re obviously following very strictly what the people I did the rehab with are saying, and my strength in my Achilles is very, very good.”
If you were in charge of tennis, what is the first rule you would change?
“I just can’t wait to be back playing soon. I really missed it. Now, watching a lot of tennis, it’s creeping in me that I want to get back.”
The star has not put pressure on himself to climb back up the rankings, but he does want to improve as a player.
“We haven’t put, like, a ranking goal or anything yet. But definitely my goal is to come back as a strong player, not just being able to play one or two matches, or I feel okay, maybe I’m a bit stiff in my foot after that.
“That’s not the goal. [If that was the case] I’d rather wait to play. So the goal is to be ready in Hamburg, fully ready, so I can play five hours, and not have any issues – the goal is to be back as an even better version than I was before.”
Rune’s last appearance at the Hamburg Open came in 2024, where he reached the quarter-finals of the competition.
Where is Holger Rune ranked after his absence?
Rune was on the cusp of the ATP Tour top 10 when he unfortunately snapped his Achilles at the Stockholm Open.
Despite a seven-month absence, the Dane has not slipped down the rankings as much as you might expect.
What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?
Rune is still comfortably tucked inside the top 30 of the rankings, currently sitting at world number 27 on the ATP Tour.
He sits above the likes of Jack Draper and Arthur Fils, both of whom have suffered from injury issues over the last year.
Rune only reached one semi-final between this point and the end of the year in the 2025 season, so he will be hopeful he can pick up ranking points upon his return.
