Will Steve Yzerman get aggressive this offseason to turn the Detroit Red Wings into contenders?
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet joined Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio and was asked how aggressive the Detroit Red Wings will be this season. Friedman wonders if Steve Yzerman will be bold enough to make the move?

Gord Stellick: “So the Red Wings, kind of quiet. So the quiet after the quiet before the storm, the quiet, we’re going to go at it again, like trying to sort through the really bitter disappointment at the end. Steve Yzerman, the Yzerplan, is it moving on? Or what sense you getting?”
Elliotte Friedman: “Well, first of all, I think they’re getting a women’s expansion team today, PWHL expansion team today. Very nice for them and the league. Good for hockey, growing like that. I would say that it’s tough to get information out of him, nmber one.
But number two, the biggest thing for him is, I always like, how bold does he want to get? Like he’s been in some pretty had potential to make some pretty big deals, but he doesn’t like lack of term.
And so like, the Quinn Hughes thing he could, like, he was in, they had a chance, but he didn’t like the fact he couldn’t get commitment on an extension. So that’s the thing to me. That’s the question I have for him, how bold does he want to get?

I could tell, like, at the end of the year, you could tell he was seething. And I think one of the reasons is last year he didn’t make moves. His own players critiqued him. This year he did make moves, and they still didn’t get in. Like, the one comment that really stands out for me Gordo, is that when he said, like, we were in third place, so we could see our team wasn’t that good. Like, that’s a tough, tough quote.
So, I, My question is, just how bold does he want to get? And if he wants to get bold, he could do something. Like he has the ability to do big things. I just, he’s shown no willingness to do it if it doesn’t involve term. So that’s why I’m curious about with him. But I definitely think there’s a will there, just as he break kind of his own previous principles.”
