How fan reaction eclipsed his Barcelona celebrations

Lewis Hamilton heads into the Austrian Grand Prix riding the momentum of one of the most memorable victories of his Formula 1 career. After finally securing his first Grand Prix win as a Ferrari driver in Spain, many expected the seven-time world champion to spend the following days celebrating the milestone. Instead, the Briton revealed that his greatest reward came from something far more personal—the reaction of Ferrari supporters and his own fans around the world.

The victory in Barcelona represented much more than another addition to Lewis Hamilton’s extraordinary record. It marked the end of months of adaptation following his high-profile move to Maranello and provided confirmation that both the driver and Ferrari are beginning to unlock the potential of their partnership. As the Formula 1 season now moves to the Red Bull Ring, Hamilton admitted that the emotional impact of the win continued to grow long after the chequered flag had fallen.

Lewis Hamilton: “I didn’t celebrate”

Despite achieving one of the biggest moments of his Ferrari career so far, Hamilton explained that he never held any special celebrations after leaving Spain.

“Everyone’s come up to me like this past week, you know, ‘how did you celebrate?’ And I’m like, I didn’t celebrate. My celebration was reposting everybody’s videos. And then I saw these videos of kids and so many of my fans just watching the race and how it meant to them. And that, for me, made that day a thousand times bigger than it would have been if it was just a normal, normal win. Because I know that they’re my ride or dies.”

Rather than focusing on the personal achievement, the Briton chose to spend his time watching and sharing videos posted by supporters from across the world. For the British driver, seeing children, lifelong fans and members of the Ferrari community celebrating together turned an already historic day into something even more meaningful.

A journey shared with the team and the fans

Lewis Hamilton has often spoken throughout his career about the importance of the people around him, and after his first Ferrari victory he once again highlighted that Formula 1 success is never the result of one individual alone.

“I’ve always said we win and we lose together because it’s far bigger than just me in the car. I’ve got my whole team. I’ve got people that travel around the world. And I remember when I was a kid before, even, you know, when I first started racing and I never, ever thought that I would have anyone but my, my mom supporting me, you know? So over the years, as you start to see people decide to choose and come on the journey with you and you see that grow and grow and you have a community, everyone in life is going through something and battling and we all support each other. You know, it’s really, it’s really the most amazing thing.”

Those comments underline one of the defining themes of Lewis Hamilton’s career. Beyond race victories and world championships, he has consistently viewed his supporters as an essential part of the journey. His move to Ferrari has only strengthened that connection, with the Tifosi embracing one of the sport’s most successful drivers as he begins a new chapter in red.

The growing relationship between the seven-time world champion and Ferrari’s passionate fanbase has become increasingly evident over recent months. Every strong performance has been met with huge enthusiasm, while his breakthrough victory in Spain sparked celebrations across social media and among fans at Maranello.

Seeing young Ferrari fans made the moment even more special

Among the countless reactions Lewis Hamilton received after the Spanish Grand Prix, one group stood out more than any other.

“I think my parents can’t believe the support and love that, that we get. My mom’s so proud and grateful to everybody. And I think for me to see the young kids, particularly, be excited and wearing the, wearing the red top as well, you know, it’s really, really, really amazing moment.”

For Hamilton, seeing a new generation of young Ferrari supporters celebrating while proudly wearing the famous red colours was perhaps the most emotional aspect of the victory. It also highlighted the unique global appeal that both the driver and Ferrari continue to enjoy.

With confidence growing inside the Scuderia after its recent improvements, Ferrari now arrives in Austria hoping to build on the momentum created in Barcelona. Whether another victory follows this weekend remains to be seen, but Lewis Hamilton has already made it clear that the greatest satisfaction comes not only from standing on the top step of the podium, but from sharing those unforgettable moments with the fans who have supported him throughout his remarkable Formula 1 journey.
